2010 St. Joseph’s Picnic Great Success
The 3rd annual St. Joseph’s Picnic held on August 7, 2010 was a great success.
At 9AM, the 7k John Arther Murphy Memorial Walk/Run, brought out some 110 participants and many on-lookers. Thank you, runners & volunteers who participated, organized, set up, registered, manned water stations & misting stations, and recorded finish times. Thank you to our generous corporate sponsors and ever-smiling organizers Donnie and Willie Stewart. (See photos and details of race & times & sponsors on its separate sjlcc blog entry…)
Free afternoon activites were sheer fun! … free pony rides thanks to Sandy Stewart & family … face painting thanks to Sunshine Sue. St. Joseph’s 4-H Club members organized many different games and manned the hot-dog stand. A spontaneous washer toss tournament sprung up. Of special interest were the contests of pioneer strength, such as nail-driving and hand–saw competitions. Thank you everyone, especially all the volunteers, the St. Joseph’s 4-H Club, and organizers Greg Fraser & Karen MacDonald.
A pork chop BBQ was held from 4-7PM, in the beautifully decorated and air-conditioned Central Hall. Diners enjoyed a delicious meal, sweetened even more by traditional Scottish airs played by John Pellerin, accompanied by Marion Dewar. Good food, great music and convivial conversation in pleasant cool surroundings! Thank you to everyone who set-up, decoarted, prepared food, served food and drinks, and tidied up afterwards. A true community effort!!! Thank you to the musicians, and to organizers Joan Dewar and Marion Dewar, and thanks to the able BBQ kings : Jason Spracklin and Jeff Huff.
At 5PM, random draws announced winners of major raffle prizes. Tara Bekkers was the lucky winner of the Toulon Ride-On Lawn Mower (thanks to Central) Second prize of $500.00 of heating oil from MacGillivray Fuels, was won by Len Hanrahan. The third prize, a Nintendo Wii (donated by Room In A Day) was won by Donnie Dewar. Thank you to the generous sponsors and to the many many volunteers who sold tickets on behalf of St. Joseph’s Community Picnic.
